Here are some ways on how to get a band score of 7.0 in the different sections of the IELTS test.

Speaking

Have a good command in the English grammar. Poorly constructed sentences in your responses do not guarantee a grade of 7.0. For starters, review on the subject and verb agreement, sentence patterns, and basic verb tenses. Always be consistent with your grammar usage.

Know what are the common topics used in the test. Familiarity on the material is a great advantage as you can prepare answers beforehand.

During the interview, give responses in full sentences. Do not give answers in phrases and make sure that your ideas are provided with details as support. Avoid giving yes or no answers.

Practice. Have someone act as an interviewer. Prepare practice questions and be open to comments and suggestions on your speaking responses.

Reading

Learn the skills of skimming and scanning. These two skills are very handy since they can help candidates save time in reading lengthy passages. Furthermore, these skills make finding the answers easier; however, it needs a lot of practice and exercises to master them.

Build a strong vocabulary bank. Dictionaries of any sorts are prohibited in the exam. Learn new words and phrases. Practice doing context clues when reading articles.

Enjoy the activity of reading. There will be passages from textbooks, magazines, newspapers and even journals. They might bore you in the middle of the real test, so it is best to practice reading these kinds of materials in preparation for the exam.

Listening

Be familiar with the different accents in English particularly – American, British, and Australian English accents. Familiarity with these makes it easier for you to understand words in listening passages.

Develop note taking skills. Remember to write down points and details that seem relevant to the question. Organize the notes according to their importance for a much easier use when it is time to answer questions.

Practice transcribing passages. This helps a lot in fill in the blanks questions that need one’s skill in spelling and general listening ability.

Writing

Learn vocabulary words to help interpret data or express ideas appropriately. There are lots of words in the English language and each suits well in a particular definition in a sentence.

Sentence construction should be varied as possible. Compose lengthy yet logical sentences. Do not settle for simple sentences with a very basic subject and verb construction.

Understand the task very well. Most mistakes come from misunderstanding the instruction, and as a result, the writing’s score is compromised. Have a checklist on your writing tasks whether what is being asked have been properly responded.

It is not impossible to get a score of 7.0 in the IELTS. It is all about the preparation and the amount of practice one does prior to taking the real test.
