Where can I Use the TOELF?

The Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) is an English exam that is taken by those who wish to study or work as a professional in an English-communication country. Thus, a significant proficiency when using the computer is needed by those who wish to take it. It is taken through the Internet and is graded manually and automatically.

 To date, more than 8,500 colleges, agencies, and other institutions accept TOEFL scores. 7,500 universities world-wide use the TOELF as a requirement for admission. Also, there are 130 countries which use TOEFL as a requirement for those who wish to enter it. These include the United States, The United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. Because of this, The TOEFL has been called the academic passport to the world.

This is understandable, given that the TOEFL subtests are not stand-alone exams, but are actually integrations of listening, reading, writing, and speaking test. This is primarily why many universities prefer the TOEFL – because the said integration is how English is used in real life situations in institutions of higher learning.

Other uses of the TOEFL include the following:

·         Immigration departments for issuance of residential and work visas;
·         Medical and licensing agencies require their candidates to take the TOEFL as a requirement for professional certification purposes. In fact, in the United States, for you to be able to take the Physical Therapy and Nursing Licensure Exams, some states would require you to take the TOEFL first.

·         Individuals use the TOEFL to measure their progress in learning English.
According to survey, 4 out of 5 officers who were surveyed stated a preference for the TOEFL examination compared to other English exam. They also expressed satisfaction at the accurate measure of the test-takers’ English language proficiency by TOEFL iBT.

The TOEFL is also used as a visa requirement, particularly in Australia and the UK.
Indeed, the TOEFL iBT is not just any exam, but a test that will give the world an assessment of your communication abilities.
