IELTS Results: How to Get Them

“I took the IELTS last weekend and I am really having cold feet with the results. Speaking of it, how long will I need to wait for the results to come out?” – Jean, 25, nurse

International English Language Testing System – the IELTS examination has been one of the most reliable English proficiency examinations in the world today. English proficiency examinations are taken by millions of non-native English speakers to prove their fluency in the English language. Because of the proven reliability and accuracy of the said examination, it has been made one of the major requirements for work, study, and immigration in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom and even some parts of the United States of America.

The examination is composed of four different sections. These sections are reading, listening, speaking and writing. Most of the time, the speaking test is separate from the written sections. It is done either before or after the other exams. The speaking test is unique as a native English speaker conducts the interview. Candidates who have taken the test say that the test is very challenging and a great experience as well.

Being a major requirement, candidates need to hit a target score set by these institutions they are applying for. Some score requirements have specific score requirements for the four sections. Thus, candidates really study hard and prepare a lot for the test. Once the test is done, candidates need to wait about 13 days or a couple of weeks for the Test Report Form to be posted. All test centers will post candidates Test Report Form. A single copy will be given to the candidate unless the applicant has applied to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) or United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA). If this is the case, the candidate will be given two copies.

What is inside the Test Result Form?

The TRF includes the score of the individual sections, the Overall Band Score, an indication on which type of test the individual has taken (Academic or General Training), and the candidate’s photo and details including his or her nationality, first language and birth date.

For British Council and IDP applicants, it is possible to check your scores online. The candidate just needs to key in his or her test date, date of birth, IELTS identification document number and candidate number. Results are available online within 40 days after the test date.

Candidates can either wait for the Test Result Form or contact their test centers. Also, you can ask for help in IELTS review centers to guide you in getting your test results. Always remember to have your IELTS candidate number with you when inquiring or requesting for your Test Result Form.
